Roula Kotsilati is a Chartered Architect from the Royal Institute of British Architects RIBA. She was awarded as one of “Europe’s most promising and emerging architects“ at the 40 UNDER 40 Awards in 2016 by the European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.
Roula completed her studies in Architecture at the United Kingdom. She graduated from London South Bank University with a Post Graduate (Honours) Diploma in Architecture after acquiring the Bachelor of Architecture BArch (Honours) from De Mondfort University in Leicester.
Roula’s professional journey started after returning back to her home town Athens on meeting the Anamorphosis Architects team whom with she participated in competitions and exhibitions including the 1st International Biennale of Architecture in Rotterdam and the “Snow Show”, a unique International exhibition in Finland Lapland where together with some of the world’s leading architects like Zaha Hadid, Tadao Ando, Morphosis, Atara Isozaki etc they created large scale installations made of ice and snow, in collaboration with famous artists.
At the age of 25 Roula established her own architectural practice, by the name of ROULA KOTSILATI ARCHITECTURE. One of her first designed projects, the “Five houses at Parnassus mountain“, Scandinavian-style sustainable Chaletes, was Nominated for the European Union prize Mies Van Der Rohe Award in 2013 and received many more distinctions and became front cover on magazines. The project has been exhibited at the 14th International Venice Biennale “Made in Europe” for the celebration of the 25 years of Mies Van Der Rohe Awards.
In 2013 Roula started a collaboration with Vianex S.A. Pharmaceutical company and undertook the designing of the company’s new project „Industrial capsule“ for offices and medicine production in Metamorfosis. The collaboration continues until today.
In 2014 Roula moved to Berlin for six years where she started a partnership with the BAUMAN.INTERNATIONAL GMBH to complete a challenging project for a luxurious Wellness- Spa in Baku – Azerbaijan for the chairman of the International Bank of Azerbaijan. The collaboration continued with projects in Berlin and its suburbs until Roula finally settled back her studio in Athens.
Having lived and worked in London and Berlin for 11 years in total, has inevitably given Roula a North European architectural perspective, while her simultaneously traveling enriched her personal design language with international influences from different cultures.
Roula’s projects have been widely recognized for their innovation, sustainability and aesthetic sophistication. Her work has been published in magazines such as the International Travel destinations magazine UK, KTIRIO, Ellinikes Kataskeves, Archipendium collective calendars Germany, Maison Decoration etc.
